Tiling Competition 2009

The Tile Association is delighted to announce the launch of the 2009 Tiling Competition which will be taking place at the Tile & Stone Show from 10-12 May 2009 at ExCeL, London.

The 2008 competition saw six competitors ranging in age from 18 to over 50 with industry experience ranging from just a few years to well over 40 years, competing for prizes valued over £1000. The 2008 competition theme was "I didn't know you could do THAT with tiles". This theme produced a wide variety of design themes ranging from 3-D images, sporting logos and floral designs.

The 2009 competition theme will reflect the partnership of The Tile & Stone Show to KBB Review Expo, the UK's leading exhibition for the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom industry with fixers being asked to design a Wet Room. They will have 14 hours to complete the piece over the Sunday and Monday of the exhibition.

As in previous years, the competition will be judged by a panel of experts including technical and design specialists on the final day of the Show. The judges will be looking for tile fixing meeting the requirements of the industry bible, British Standard, BS5385 and will be awarding a high percentage of marks for the design.

The winner will be announced on the afternoon of the final day of the Tile & Stone Show. Already confirmed are the following details:

  • Competitors will be asked to come up with a design for a Wet Room, and will be given the choice of using manufactured and/or natural stone tiles in the design.
  • The bay sizes - 3 metre wide x 2 metre high back wall, with two 1 metre wide x 2metre high side walls. The floor size will be 3 metres by 1 metre with a pre-formed shower tray already installed.
  • Each competitor will be able to source their own wall and floor tiles, adhesives, grouts, tapes and trims and providers do not necessarily have to be exhibitors at the Show.
  • A tool list will be provided by TTA, and arrangements for powered cutting tools will be made by the organisers.

The 2009 competition area will also include the Tile Association stand, which is one of the focal points of the Tile & Stone Show.

It is anticipated that the competition itself will be one of THE features of the whole exhibition event; KBB Review Expo, FloorStyle and The Tile & Stone Show. With over 10000 visitors expected over the three days of the show the competition will produce a large audience keen to watch the progress of the competition, and undoubtedly considering themselves who the potential winners will be.

If you think you are the best of the best when it comes to tiling or you employ the best fixer, then put your name forward for the competition by completing the entry form.
