Mapei and Altolusso
Mapei products were used throughout many wall and floor tiling installations in the Altolusso Apartment Building.
Apartments throughout the £650,000 project were tiled by Birmingham Tile & Mosaic Ltd using a variety of Mapei products.
Each standard bathroom was fitted with Architectural Ceramics' 330x330mm Aruba tiles. The grey tiles were fixed to walls using MapeGrip D1, and MapeGrip D2 in areas around the bath and shower. Both MapeGrip D1 and MapeGrip D2 are part of Mapei UK's paste adhesive range; D1 is a high grab, high performance adhesive with no vertical slip and extended open time suitable for the installation of all ceramic tiles. MapeGrip D2 is also a high grab ready-to-use adhesive that is fully water resistant. Both adhesives are available in 2.5kg, 7.5kg and 15kg buckets. A total of approximately 4000m² of MapeGrip D1 was used, alongside approximately 2600m² of MapeGrip D2.
The 330x330mm tiles in white were fixed to floor areas using Keraquick fast setting polymer modified flexible adhesive for fixing all types of ceramic, porcelain and glass tiles, mosaics and non moisture-sensitive natural stone. Approximately1400m² of bathroom floors were fixed using Keraquick.
Penthouse Apartment bathrooms were fixed with vitreous glass mosaic in pearl silver and Vidom glass tiles in various colours. Floor surfaces were levelled and smoothed with Ultraplan ultra-fast hardening, water-mixed, truly self-levelling compound, and also fixed with the Mapefonic System - an acoustic noise reduction system.
Finishing was completed using Mapei's Ultracolor. A fast setting polymer modified grout in white and cement grey. Ultracolor has now been replaced by Ultracolor Plus - the same high quality fast setting grout, with added BioBlock ® anti-mould, and DropEffect ® water-repellent technologies. Ultracolor Plus is available in 26 colours in 2kg and 5kg Alu-Paks.
