THE TILE ASSOCIATION
serving the tile industry and its customers

Ian Crowther becomes The Tile Association’s Chairman.

With over thirty years experience in the building materials industry the incoming Chairman of The Tile Association is Ian Crowther.

Ian is the Trade Sales and Marketing Director of Johnson Tiles. He succeeds Ashley Heath who had been Chairman for two years.

Ian has had wide experience, having previously held senior sales and marketing positions with Marley Flooring, Forbo Nairn, Gaskell Carpets and Pilkington’s Tiles. He has been with Johnson Tiles for nearly ten years. As a founding director of The Tile Association, Ian has been involved with the Association’s development since it was established.

With the industry facing tough market conditions, Ian sees the role of the TTA becoming more important to not only its membership but for all tile users and specifiers. Ian said, “All members whether large or small concerns should be able to benefit positively from their membership. In such difficult market conditions there is a definite requirement for a strong and active trade association to support the wider use of tiles in all types of building. Such support is not simply to gain more sales but to educate specifiers, builders and homeowners about the advantages of tiles and the sustainable attributes that they have.”

He continued, “Training provision for fixers and suppliers is an area that I would like to see the TTA to develop more; helping the industry to become more focussed and professional. Similar training should also be developed for manufacturers and distributors to ensure that customer service levels improve and the tile buying experience to become less daunting.”

Ian strongly believes that users of tiles need to understand that the TTA is an organisation which promotes excellence in all areas, ensures that member’s products are of the best possible quality and are fit for purpose. “We need to be seen as a modern and forward looking organisation that serves both the users and the membership fairly and professionally.”

Ian Crowther (54) was educated in Worsley, Manchester. He is married and lives with his wife Judith in rural Cheshire. They have two grown up children, Adam who is a GP and Lucy a marketing manager and two year old grandson Harry.
