CLASSIFICATION OF
TILE ADHESIVES AND GROUTS
 Adhesive Choice
12004, with substantiated data on the label. Low performance adhesives will have omissions to this data, especially for classification rating.
Grout Choice
Grout choice is based on tile type, location of tiling, service condition of the installation and colour preference.
The following are descriptions of the product classifications in accordance with the current European Standard EN 13888:
Adhesive choice is based on tile type, location of tiling and nature of the substrate. Tile adhesives are classified according to the European Standards EN 12004. Products are defined as follows:

  Dispersion (ready-mixed) adhesive

  Reaction resin adhesive
   S1
  Deformable (flexible) adhesive
 S2
   Highly deformable (flexible) adhesive

   Normal cementitious grout
   CG2
 Cementitious grout with improved performance
 RG
   Reaction resin grout

 Improved adhesive (usually with higher bond strength)

  Fast-setting adhesive

   Before purchasing an adhesive product, a user should check the label on the container/packaging. Good quality products will carry a classification rating
(e.g. C1TE), a CE Mark and a reference to BS EN
