NEW RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT COMPETENCE MANAGEMENT

Published July 7, 2026

New guidance is now available to help organisations understand recognised standards and good practice on managing competence.

The Industry Competence Committee (ICC) has recently published guidance for setting expectations on competence management, explaining the principles and values which are leading the future of the construction industry. Alongside this, the Industry Task and Finish Group (ITFG) has published ‘Managing Competence in the Built Environment: An industry guide on how to meet the ICC principles’, which provides information on how to apply those principles in practice.

Both documents can be accessed via the BSI Built Environment Competence Hub, a new platform designed to bring together everything from practical resources to competence frameworks related to competence in the UK’s built environment. It is free to become a member, though approval is required.

In addition, a Building Safety Regulator webinar is now also available on YouTube, ‘Managing Competence in the Built Environment’ (March 2026). The session provided an overview of regulatory expectations, practical examples of competence management, and insights into how organisations can strengthen their arrangements ahead of upcoming regulatory milestones.
