It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Cyril Potter.
Cyril was born in the middle of World War II, on Boxing Day 1942, and studied Physics and Chemistry at Southampton University, which prepared him for a long career in R&D roles as an industrial chemist. For 47 years Cyril served as Chief Chemist at ARDEX UK, based in Haverhill, Essex, and he was also active in setting industry standards in his role as a member of TTA Technical Committee. Recognising his many contributions to the industry, he received lifetime achievement awards from both The Tile Association, and the contract flooring sector.
Highlights from his career include lecturing on ARDEX’s adhesive products while on a business trip to China, and supporting London Underground on all aspects of their tiling, screeding and rendering specifications and fast-track installation methods – a huge job. ARDEX dedicated its new training centre to Cyril and many of the documents that he produced in his time are still used as references. When he retired, he was gifted tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show and Afternoon Tea at The Orangery at Kensington Palace, in honour of his incredibly successful professional career, and as a thank you for being a pleasure to work with.
Cyril was well known and respected in the tiling industry and rightly proud of his achievements. Outside of work, he was close to his family, and loved his garden and allotment, playing tennis, sailing and food. He will be greatly missed by all.
