When the opportunity to join TTA’s Sustainability Working Group arose nearly two years ago, Telling Finishings were very keen to connect with other businesses that share its commitment to a more sustainable future in the sector.
As a company, Telling Finishings had already been exploring ways to operate more sustainably, and being an active member of TTA’s Sustainability Working Group has significantly helped the business move towards achieving these goals.
“A key part of our sustainability action plan has been measuring our emissions. This effort not only supports our own sustainability journey but also enables us to provide our clients – many of whom are top-tier principal contractors – with the information they require for their Scope 3 emissions, helping us align with their sustainability objectives”, says J. Kaiser, Technical H&S, Sustainability Manager, Telling Finishings. Measuring these emissions has supported the enhancement of Telling’s accreditations, including Constructionline Gold, the Common Assessment Standard, and its participation in the Local Supply Chain and Sustainability School.
J. Kaiser continues: “Each month we monitor key data, including travel mileage and fuel usage across our vans, trucks, and car fleet, energy and utilities management including electric vehicles, and waste management including recycling.”
This data provides a reliable baseline reference point against which Telling Finishings can measure future emissions. It enables the company to set meaningful targets for reducing carbon emissions, energy use, and waste over the next 1–5 years, while continuously improving sustainable construction practices for the long term.
