TTA Offers EWPAR & OSAT Assessments

TTA is now assisting experienced tilers to gain their NVQ, and in turn CSCS cards. This is in accordance with the Government’s aim to achieve a fully qualified workforce by 2020, stimulating the market by providing a route to qualification for experienced operatives via on-site and off-site assessments.

Most principal contractors and major house builders require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid CSCS card. An NVQ is a prerequisite for a construction industry professional applying for a CSCS card. For experienced tilers, there are two paths to the NVQ:  the EWPAR (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment) route or the OSAT (On Site Assessment & Training) route.

With the OSAT route, the assessment is conducted at the candidate’s place of work, whilst the assessment done via the EWPAR route is carried out off site under the observation of an approved assessor. Tilers can achieve a level 2 NVQ via these routes.

The TTA provides both EWPAR and OSAT assessments with CITB registered assessors. EWPA assessments with TTA are conducted at the training facility of BAL (Building Adhesives Ltd) in Staffordshire. Tiles and adhesives/grouts for the assessments will be provided by BAL.

The cost for an EWPAR assessment

  • For TTA Members – £500 + VAT per candidate, plus £71 CITB registration fee
  • For non-members – £600 + VAT, plus £71 CITB registration fee.

The cost for an OSAT assessment

  • For TTA Members – £650 + VAT per candidate, plus £71 CITB registration fee
  • For non-members – £750 + VAT, plus £71 CITB registration fee
  • Additional expenses to be agreed and paid directly to the assessor.

CITB Funding

In order to help tilers achieve their NVQ, and in turn register for CSCS cards, TTA has secured funding for our sector from CITB. TTA has funding for 100 places to be used by January 2021.

“The funding that TTA has obtained is time limited, so it is important that those interested contact us as soon as possible,” says David Rowley, Chairman of TTA Training Committee. “It is also another great reason why tile fixers should be members of TTA, since they benefit from a £100 discount on the cost of the assessments.”

Independent fixers and companies who wish to put their fixers through the assessments are encouraged to contact TTA for more information on 0300 365 8453 or by emailing

TTA will be able to advise which route is appropriate for you based on your skills and experience.
