As a CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO), TTA is organising a programme of training courses on the subject of Large Format Wall & Floor Tiles and Panels. The aim is to increase understanding and fixer competence with regard to the installation of these new types of tile, which are currently very popular.
TTA has recently held its second training session on this subject, which took place at the Innovation Technology Centre at Building Adhesives Ltd. In addition to providing the venue and lunch, BAL supplied the boards, large format panel and the adhesives.
The event was a great success, attended by 20 contractors plus guests. The subject matter covered all aspects of large format tile and panel installation, including the particular requirements of the latest British Standard – BS 5385-1: 2018, which specify the requirement for mechanical fixing where tiles greater than 0.1m2 face area are to be fixed above 3m from floor level.
ATO status means that the training courses that TTA provides are run to a defined and industry-agreed standard. The Large Format course is one of a number of short duration training courses approved and designed to upskill professional tilers. They are open to both experienced and inexperienced tilers, as well as students and lecturers. They are also open to both members and non-members of TTA. Participants may be eligible to apply for funding from CITB to assist with their cost in attending.
The course goes hand-in-hand with the TTA Technical Committee’s publication on “Large For-mat Wall & Floor Tiles and Panels in Internal Tiling”, which has recently been updated to provide guidance on the latest generation of large format tiles and panels. This guidance document is available free of charge to TTA members and those attending training courses.
